Airshotsdontcount.com website is now closing!

Gentlemen,

As I had to pay for this site and we’re not using it anymore I have cancelled the subscription and it runs out on Tuesday 30th.  After that time the site will be closed and there will be no further access.

Rather than paying for a site that we don’t really use I have now created a page on Facebook with the same name which is free.  I suggest you head over there and ‘Like’ the page if you want to receive updates.  For those of you not on Facebook you have several options:

  • Join!
  • Pay me £90 over the weekend and I’ll keep the site open!

Given my new found employment I will be organise a small number of events per year and maybe even a long weekend away somewhere in the UK at the end of the summer.

I will update the Facebook site so hopefully see you over there.

If you don’t want to join and don’t use Facebook (or don’t want to give me £90) then it’s been fun!

Lee :-)

Event for 14.07.2012

Gents, apologies for the late notice but I have been very busy recently, before anyone complains (what you lot!!) if you want to help me out organising events do feel free to let me know?

I have now reserved 3 tee times this coming Saturday 14th at Windmill Hill at 9.04, 9:11 and 9:18 for those that are interested in playing.

I could probably reserve one or two more times if we need but lets see how many can make it.

In view of the late notice there is no need for you to pay me in advance and in this instance you will pay Windmill directly on the day.  I’m not sure of the cost yet but with bets it won’t be more that £30.00

I’m happy to make this a handicap event but let’s see how many people come along.

As usual keep an eye of the site over the coming days for further information.

Reply to this note or comment on the site to let me know whether you can make it or not.

See you soon.
Lee.

Anybody fancy a game this weekend?

As the upcoming football tournament in Towcester that was scheduled for this Sunday has been cancelled due to the recent bad weather I unexpectedly have the weekend clear.

Given that Sunday is Fathers’ Day and I am trying to persuade the wife and kids to wait on me hand and foot (not change there then!) I wondered if anyone is around on Saturday or Sunday for a game?

I suspect we’ll play at Windmill so send me a message or comment if you’re interested, let me know which day, time is best and I’ll try and organise something.

For me, I think Saturday would be best given that Sunday is Fathers’ Day!

To be clear, this isn’t a society event – you don’t need to pay in advance and playing won’t affect your society handicap!

Let me know…

Lee.

Show me the money…

Show me the money....

As you may have gathered in my previous post earlier today the numbers for the Three Locks were quite low, that in itself is fine as I do understand that not everybody can make every event.

This weekend 8 people played which is great, however I was expecting 10 on the day.  There were 2 people who never turned up or bothered to contact me and let me know.  (1 person also did this at Windmill!).

In the week leading up to the event a further 4 or 5 people also let me know that they couldn’t make it after previously confirming that they would play.

Given that I had requested the Three Locks reserve 4 tee times only a week beforehand they weren’t impressed and to be frank neither was I!

Whilst I appreciate that emergencies and changes of plans do happen the reason these events are scheduled in advance is to give you time to organise yourselves and make sure they are in you diary.

From an organisational perspective when I arrange events I have to get prices and reserve tee-times from the courses we play, to do this I need to give them an indication of numbers.  Normally courses will also want me to pay a deposit and make up the balance on the day.  Usually I am asked to firm up on numbers around a week beforehand.

Thankfully at the Three Locks last weekend I didn’t have to either pay a deposit or firm up on numbers but this isn’t normally the case.

I do want to reduce the chance of this happening in the future and after a brief discussion with those that were there on the 10th we agreed that for all future events, starting for our next event which is the 14th July, I should take a deposit payment.  It was felt that the deposit amount of £10.00 or the deposit required by the course, whichever is greater was not an unreasonable amount!

It will be the act of paying the deposit that confirms your place!

The process will be as follows:

  1. I will provisionally book the course and give them an indication of the numbers playing.
  2. I will put the event details (course, date, time and amount of deposit required etc.) on the website and ask people to confirm their attendance.
  3. The event details will include details of my bank account for those who wish to pay by electronic transfer which would be the preferred method
  4. For those that wish to pay by electronic transfer remember to put your name in the reference field so I know where the money has come from!
  5. For those of you that see me at school / football / pub / pavilion etc. the deposit in cash is fine too!
  6. The receipt of the deposit payment confirms your place, your place will not be confirmed by email/text or any other way until payment is received.
  7. Once payment is received your name will be put onto the website to confirm your attendance.
  8. Please note that the deposit payment is NON-REFUNDABLE in the event you cannot then subsequently play.
  9. If you are in any doubt don’t pay the deposit!

A fair amount of my time goes into organising these events and updating the website with photos / handicaps etc. so if people don’t want to play or pay the deposit then that is fine to!

On the plus side I also said that once a date has been set, short of a natural disaster it won’t be changed!  Even if there are only 2 players it will go ahead!

Due to the lack of numbers at the weekend I did think very carefully about cancelling the event at the last moment but decided against it for the 10 or so that had committed to be there (although only 8 then turned up!)

As a final note, there were a lot of you that said at the outset you couldn’t make it which is brilliant too thank you.  I can work with definite yes’s and definite no’s.  I can even work with no’s that become yes’s but the other way around is a problem!

Thanks for your understanding!  I look forward to seeing you all next time…

Report on Three Locks 10.06.2012

For our visit to the Three Locks on Saturday we were always low on numbers, in the end I was expecting 10 but even then 2 never showed on the day without even the courtesy of a phone call.

I do understand that a small percentage won’t be able to make it because of last minute problems but am going to change things to reduce this.  (If you think I’m moaning you’d be correct but I’ll expand on the changes in a post later today!).

Nevertheless the select and elite group of 8 that turned up enjoyed themselves and even ‘Happy’ Chris Ford was seen to smile on occasion.

Weather wise we were extremely lucky, despite forecasts of heavy and persistent rain, we had the sun with us from first thing in the morning and it was lovely until right near the 18th when a few spots of rain started.  I think it has rained since so perfect timing really – something I am not usually known for!

We went off in two groups of four with Lee, Buggy Stu, Corporate Steve and Happy Fordy in the first group and Albert, Pete, Nigel and John going off in the second.  We didn’t do a random draw given the low numbers.

As you are aware this was a handicap event and Stableford points were calculated based previously detailed handicaps.  The results for the day were as follows sorted in order of points.   As you will see Corporate Steve won with 36 points followed very closely by me! (Steve, the ball I picked up might have cost me dear I think – lesson learnt!).  The average score for the day was 28.5 (rounded up to 29 for the handicap calculation) and the calculation of the next handicaps was taken from this – As per the rules Steve lost an additional shot for winning and Pete gained an additional for coming in with the wooden spoon – although he did win nearest the pin!).

To great surprise Stu won the longest drive although sadly for Steve he would have won this had his ball not rolled into the ditch across the fairway!, next time a suitable hole needs to be found I think!

Given the low numbers the prize fund was only £40.00 so we only paid out for first place (£20 to Steve), Nearest the pin was £5.00 as was longest drive.  The secret doubles was £5.00 each (Albert I have yours!)

For those that wish to look at photos and videos, I have uploaded all those taken on the day to here or click on the photo below to view them, please do add comments and feel free to share on Facebook or Twitter etc. (Not you Scratch – I know you don’t do social media!)

Update for Three Locks Golf 10th June 2012.

Good morning gentlemen,

Just a quick update on our next Golf Day at the Three Locks on the 10th June.

The golf, including all bets, will cost £30.00 and we have several tee off times booked from 10.32 onwards.

This means you will need to be at the Three Locks by 09:45 latest to sort out money and the draw, as usual please bring cash as it makes the payment and organisation much easier.

For this event I haven’t organised any teas, coffees or food but for those that wish the Three Locks serve a full English breakfast for £6.95 or Ham, Egg & Chips after for £8.50.

This will be a full handicap event and your performance on the day (or lack of!) will affect your society handicap.

To help keep track of who is coming and who isn’t I have now added a page under the event date entitled ‘Who’s coming?’ (it does what it says on tin!).  To check this hold your mouse over the ‘Events 2012 menu’ on the home page, scroll down to the ’10th June 2012′ when it appears and you will then see ‘Who’s coming?’.  If you’re lazy just click here.

Any questions leave a reply and I’ll respond…

Thanks

Lee.
